FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Sakas & Company advises agency owners facing consequential decisions about growth, leadership, transferability, and long-term value.

Led by longtime advisor Karl Sakas, we help owners strengthen the business beneath the business—so they can create better options for the future, whether that means steadier growth, less owner dependence, more leadership capacity, or greater exit readiness.

Most of our work is customized, so this page is designed to help you understand fit, process, and the best starting point.

Is this right for me?

Who's the best fit to work with Karl?

The best fit is usually an agency owner or senior leader facing meaningful decisions about growth, leadership, profitability, transferability, or future transitions. Most clients come when the stakes are too high for generic advice and they want an experienced outside perspective.

Who is not a fit?

This is usually not the best fit for very early-stage agencies, businesses looking for cheap tactical help, or people who want one quick answer without doing the deeper work. It is also not ideal when someone wants certainty without the level of time, access, and honesty needed to get there.

Is this only for owners planning to sell?

No. Exit readiness is one use case, but not the only one. Much of the work is about increasing enterprise value, reducing owner dependence, improving transferability, and creating better options over time—whether or not you plan to sell soon.

How do I know which service is right for my agency?

That depends on the depth of help you need. Some clients need a clear starting point and prioritized recommendations. Others need deeper analysis or ongoing advisory support. If you are unsure, reach out and Karl can help you determine the best fit based on your goals, timing, and agency needs.

Which starting point makes sense?

What is the Agency Value Audit?

The Agency Value Audit (AVA) is a structured engagement designed to identify what strengthens enterprise value, what weakens transferability, and what should be improved first. It is often the right starting point for owners who want more clarity before making bigger decisions.

Is this the same as the Exit-Readiness Audit?

Yes and no. The Agency Value Audit grew out of the Exit-Readiness Audit, but it is more than a simple rename. We refined the process to focus on enterprise value, transferability, and owner optionality—not only eventual exit readiness.

What’s the difference between the Agency Value Audit and the Agency Growth Assessment?

The Agency Growth Assessment is lighter-weight and helps identify areas to focus on. The Agency Value Audit is more in-depth and is designed for owners who need stronger analysis, a clearer roadmap, and more concrete recommendations across the business. In simple terms: one is a narrower diagnostic, the other is a deeper look at the foundation.

When does ongoing advisory make sense?

Ongoing advisory is usually the right fit after there is enough clarity about what needs to change and where support is most valuable. For many clients, the audit creates that clarity first, and then deeper support follows if needed.

What’s it like to work together?

Do clients work directly with Karl?

Yes. Clients work directly with Karl. Depending on the engagement, there may be supporting tools, materials, or operational help behind the scenes, but the advisory relationship itself is with him.

What does working together look like in practice?

That depends on the engagement, but most work includes a structured intake, document review, conversations with key stakeholders, analysis, and clear recommendations. The goal is not just insight, but a practical path forward.

Is this virtual or in-person?

Most client work is virtual. In-person work is possible in some situations, especially for speaking, workshops, or select advisory engagements.

Do you work with clients outside the US?

Yes. Karl has worked with agencies across dozens of countries, and the work is designed to support clients internationally as well as in the U.S.

Agency consultant Karl Sakas has advised clients in 30 countries on 6 of 7 continents.

How do you maintain confidentiality?

We take confidentiality seriously. Many clients come with sensitive issues involving ownership, leadership, finances, succession, or future transitions. The work is structured to protect discretion and create space for candid conversations.

What should I expect?

What’s the financial commitment?

It depends on the service and the scope. Some engagements have published starting points, while others are customized based on complexity, stakeholder involvement, and the level of support required.

What’s the time commitment for clients?

That varies by engagement, but good work requires time, access, and thoughtful participation. The goal is not speed for its own sake. It is making the right decisions in the right order.

How long does it take to see results?

Some clients leave with clarity quickly. The bigger operational or financial results usually take longer because they depend on implementation, team follow-through, and the complexity of the business. The work is designed to improve the quality of decisions first, which then shapes the results that follow.

Do you guarantee the results I'll get?

No. No serious advisor can guarantee a specific outcome, because results depend on many factors beyond the advisor’s control. What Karl does provide is experienced perspective, clear recommendations, strong boundaries, and a practical path forward.

    How do I get started?

Start by reaching out through the contact form. If it looks like there may be a fit, Karl will help determine the best next step based on your goals and what level of support makes sense.
